Some parkruns are very confusingly named. Greenwich parkrun takes place in Avery Park and today we headed to Catford Parkrun, which is in Mountsfield park. Previously a private house/estate, it was bequeathed to the local authority in 1905 and over time has increased to the 32-acre park of today.
This event starts at the bandstand and is a clockwise route with a strange shoe horn part on each lap. We go through a forestry section at the bottom and an Edwardian rose garden at the top.
With 36m of elevation, the high ground offers views which take in Crystal Palace which also hosts another London parkun event.
With so much elevation I didn’t think I’d hit my age grading goal however with energy to spare I navigated the final climb finishing with 74%. I have to put some of that down to the excellent meal I’d had the night before and I shouldn’t have been surprised as it was served up by my friend who runs a cooking club for Kinship Kitchen, please do check them out; https://www.facebook.com/kinshiphubLondon/
Next week, I'll be taking a break from London parkruns travelling instead to Oxford to complete the University Parks event and so secure the letter ‘U’ for the alphabet challenge.
