After a working week which had included trips to two prisons and one psychiatric hospital to see clients, Saturday morning represented a welcome return to normality.
Oak Hill parkrun holds a special place for me as it’s where I completed the ‘Stopwatch Bingo’ challenge (getting all the seconds from 00 to 59 in your parkrun finish) back in October 2018. Today I was back with Shveta for the penultimate event in her LonDone challenge #exciting! Oak Hill is not around the corner so a 07.14am leave time, bus, tube, tube and bus was needed to deliver us to this event in Barnet. It’s a 3 lap rectangle course in a lush park on cement paths with one side parallel with a road. The paths are a bit narrow so starting in the right place is advisable. A friendly local vibe, tail walker with a dog and a cafe with working toilets #winning 🙂
I did a 1k warm up before changing into the vapourflys, I wanted to see what I was capable off having not run for a week. The RD counted us down and we were off. I was near the front and didn’t get caught in traffic and my shoes were purring. I kept checking in with my calf and my watch and I felt pleased with them both 🙂 With 500m to go someone tucked in behind me with a chap in front definitely in reach. The pace quickened and then with 100m it was all go as we raced to the line. I caught the chap in front of me but he found another gear and I couldn’t keep with him as he showed me the soles of his shoes. And then it was over, with high fives and fist pumping. The guy in front of me denied me first finisher in my age category however I finished 7th receiving the finish token ‘007’ and with a sub 20min finish, an event pb and my calf holding up I’m very happy with the world 🙂
Next Saturday is the visit to Thames Path in Woolwich.
I will regain my LonDone status (it’s a new event hence losing my crown) and where Shveta will complete the LonDone challenge too, forth eorlingas!
